Wanderers ODI abandoned

The weather was the only winner.

England's first one-day international against South Africa was washed out at the Wanderers on Friday.

Following heavy rain overnight and through the day in Johannesburg, a final decision came after a scheduled inspection by the umpires at 5pm local time.

South Africa coach Mickey Arthur admits it's disappointing that the game was a washout.

"It is very frustrating. We were looking forward to getting stuck into the series," Arthur said.

"We felt we picked up good momentum in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series and our players are raring to go."

The second match is scheduled to take place at Centurion on Sunday.
